This short Tagalog tongue twister uses the letter T relentlessly. Titikling is the Philippine kingfisher bird, and Titay is a common Filipino name. The verse translates as: Titay sells tikling birds — tikling birds are what Titay sells. The reversal in the second line is the same trap used in Peter Piper.

Nagtitinda ng Titikling si Titay – Full Text

Nagtitinda ng titikling si Titay,
Titikling ang itininda ni Titay.

English Translation

Titay is selling tikling birds,
Tikling birds are what Titay sold.

Why Is It So Hard?

Nagtitinda (is selling), titikling (kingfisher), and Titay all share the TI sound. The second line reverses the subject and object, which is the same structural trick as Peter Piper — the words are familiar but the sequence changes, causing the brain to misfire at speed.

Tips

  • Say nagtitinda alone first — it contains four syllables and three T sounds.
  • Think of titikling as TI-tik-ling to break down the consonant cluster.
  • Master the second line separately before combining both.
